Considering the protestant Revised Common Lectionary in order of their succession, Revised Common Lectionary succeeded Common Lectionary, which itself succeeded COCU (Consultation on Church Union) Lectionary. Thus, Revised Common Lectionary is not the same as Roman Catholic Lectionary. The feasts and other celebrations neither have the same date nor the same readings. The arrangement of the readings in the two lectionaries vary. The major difference between Revised Common Lectionary and the Catholic Lectionary is the arrangement of the contents. ![]() Revised Common Lectionary is the kind of lectionary organized, arranged and used by protestant churches. But, this does not mean that the Eastern church does not use it in some instances. Thence, the Word read out from Catholic Lectionary is used for Daily Scripture lessons preached during homily. It is otherwise called Daily Mass Readings book. Specifically, Catholic Lectionary is a Catholic liturgical book containing portions of the Bible appointed to be read during the liturgy on particular days throughout the year. However, the Catholic Church arranged her lectionary according to the Life of Christ. Most Protestants follow some form of this pattern, though there is no single lectionary for Catholic Church and Protestants. A lectionary is a plan or schedule of biblical texts to be read at each Sunday and Daily Mass or service in the church. The lectionaries of the Roman Catholic Church are originally published in Latin language those for other Western Christian churches are published in the vernacular, usually English.
